Flu season precautions lilfted

St. Joseph’s/Candler is lifting visitation restrictions implemented two months ago to curb the spread of the flu.

This means children under the age of 18 can once again visit patients at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Candler Hospital.

The Centers for Disease Control has been reporting continuous decreases in the number of new cases nation-wide.

St. Joseph’s/Candler will now go back to normal requirements for visitors, these include:

• If you are sick or have flu-like symptoms, please do not visit patients at the hospitals
• Family and siblings can visit newborns in the Special Care Nursery, but children’s vaccination record will be checked first.

Co-workers at St. Joseph’s/Candler would like to thank the public for helping us protect our patients while this new strain of flu affected our community.

If seasonal or H1N1 flu spikes again, the more stringent visitation policies may be implemented again.

Flu-like symptoms include:
Fever (100 or more)
Cough
Sore throat
Muscle/joint/body aches
Headache
Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea

As the flu season progresses St. Joseph’s/Candler will continue to work with the Chatham County Health Department to reevaluate these conditions and update the community on safety precautions or any other changes in our visitation policy.
